And he was killed on March 14, 1967 in the Republic of Viet Nam.
The Marine directly in front of Bill tripped a booby trapped grenade on their way to a night ambush site at about 8:00 PM that evening. The explosion killed Bill instantly and wounded two other Marines, including the one who encounter the booby trap.
