Norm the Accountant and his Voice Recognition Computer

Norm has always liked electronic gadgets.

Norm is always looking for ways to make his professional practice more effective, efficient, productive and profitable.

A while back Norm was explaining to me how his new voice recognition computer was enabling him to make his time so much more efficient.

When Norm was finishing up a file he could tell the computer to close and save the computer files as he was putting away the documents and then he could tell the computer to open the files for the next client as he was getting the new files out of the file cabinet

Now it seems that the way this technology works is that the computer recognizes certain tones in a certain sequence as being a particular set of commands.

Well, this system was working really well, except for one small flaw. Norm's chair has a squeak. A real loud squeak.

Whenever Norm pushed his chair back in a certain way, it would squeak and this was interpreted by the computer as a command to initialize the modem, dial up a database and issue a search command.

The bottom line is that Norm has now become an expert on the sales tax laws of Newfoundland and Labrador.
